Delta Sig told to leave, Kappa Sig allowed back

The 2006-2007 Greek accreditation report resulted in the disbandment of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Delta Sig received a poor accreditation rank for the second year in a row and was requested to leave campus, said Tim Wilkinson, director of fraternity and sorority affairs.

The global lehigh advisory committee is attempting to increase global studies at the university by implementing a more internationally-focused educational experience. Rajan Menon, an international relations professor and chair of the committee, said the committee had one semester to prepare a plan that was creative, feasible and compelling.

Timothy Gardner was appointed first director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Ally program started at Lehigh in mid-July. Sharon Basso, associate vice provost and dean of students, said the dean of student's office has been providing support services and programs related to the LGBTQA for some time with the existing staff.

Seniors choose to leave single class gift

No more personal donations. This year's graduating class has decided to return to a more traditional approach. Instead of making hundreds of individual donations as a final, departing gesture, the class of 2008 will pool the donations and make one significant, lasting contribution for its senior class gift.

The administration is urging students to register for a new text message emergency alert system. Students voluntarily register their cell phone numbers online and will be notified by the school-wide text message in the event of an emergency. The program, called LU-ALERT, was implemented in response to the shootings at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University this past spring.

New, small fitness center to open in Brodhead House

Brodhead House will soon include a small gym containing four elliptical machines, a stationary bike and two plasma TVs. The residence hall is located on the lower, west-side of campus. The gym is expected to open by September 14. As a result of order issues, the delivery of the machines is behind schedule and the facility is opening later than was originally expected.
