President Gast has said that she has no interest in signing the Amethyst Initiative, a movement that started in July 2008 to open up discussion about lowering the U.S. drinking age. The initiative has achieved some momentum on Lehigh's campus recently, with a Student Senate petition to Gast already getting 800 student signatures. (1) comment
Playboy U, an online branch of Playboy targeted to college students, recently announced its 2009 top party schools. Lehigh jumped back up the list, landing at No. 14 out of 25 after not making the list in 2006.The higher party position calls to mind all the "Lehigh was way better before you got here," and "just imagine how it was before the cops cracked down" nostalgia. A few weeks ago, my mom and I had our fifth, and final, New York Mother-Daughter Bonding Weekend of my Lehigh career. The April 17 editorial "Club budget cuts questionable" proved true on Saturday when an estimated 3,000 people showed up to Sayre Field. As co-director of University Productions Music committee, I want to thank everyone that came out to Sundaze. The support from the student body made this one of Lehigh's most memorable events in recent history. (1) comment
I am writing because of an incident that occurred on campus this past Sunday, April 19. I was driving down Taylor Street past Grace Hall when I noticed a group of students standing in the road. As I slowed down to avoid hitting them, one student jumped in front of my car holding a sign for registering for the national "Be The Match" bone marrow donation registry. (0) comments
Last Thursday three of my non-Greek friends and I went to the Delta Gamma/Alpha Tau Omega dance competition. We had all been last year and thought we knew what to expect. While we enjoyed the performances in the beginning, the dialogue of the emcees quickly ruined the experience. (3) comments
It is unfortunate that those of us at Lehigh who walk around the Hill, or around campus, have to face the incessant debate over how to handle the Greek "problem." Time and again we are forced to endure endless discussions, articles, and letters to the editor on the matter. (6) comments
As the final weeks turn into final days, the notion of entering the "real world" becomes more and more of a reality. What are we supposed to do now? Get a job, get married, have children, retire and grow old? This seems like a lot of work compared to getting up for an 8 a. (0) comments
