Lehigh students don't need any encouragement to travel - many already travel the world to far off locations every winter, spring and summer vacation.

The decision for some students usually comes down to if they want to drink legally in Mexico or in Europe, but many more memorable and cultural alternatives exist.

Charity service groups are available to take students to impoverished areas. Student travel tours to less common locations offer an opportunities to explore less-frequented areas of the world.

But sometimes the best journey is within our own borders, to the areas of the United States many East Coast residents never have the chance, or desire, to visit. The cultural heritage and history of the South, Southwest and Midwest contain a large part of what makes us American.

Many at Lehigh travel more to spring break or party locations than they do to the interior and remote areas of the country, but understanding this part of the country, and visiting it, will benefit students far more than another booze cruise.
