The interim vice president of advancement, John Norton, will leave Nov. 1, and the advisory board is seeking a permanent candidate for the position.
Kathryn Humphreys, assistant vice president of corporate and foundation relations and career services, will serve as the new interim vice president of advancement from Nov. 1 until December, when a new candidate is named.
Norton was initially appointed to take over as interim vice president. After a month and a half, he decided to leave Lehigh, and Humphreys was selected by President Alice Gast to lead the advancement team until a new candidate is chosen.
The interims replaced Bonnie Devlin, whose resigned in late September.
Norton was exploring the possibility of relocating to California before taking over as interim, he said. The move will allow him to move closer to his daughter and 2-year-old granddaughter.
Norton has accepted the position as assistant vice president of institutional advancement at Pomona College in Claremont, Calif., and will oversee individual giving and research.
Norton said the advancement team did not suffer as a result of the transitions.
"They moved forward," Norton said. "They are a strong group of professionals, and they coped with the situation very well."
Norton also said the advancement team did not know Devlin was going to resign.
During his time as interim vice president of advancement, Norton said he reorganized the advancement team and kept the organization intact. However, he said he did not have the chance to set many goals for the committee.
"[The advancement team] is going to continue to raise money and bring more people on board to support the university's goals," Norton said.
Humphreys said in taking over the position her first initiative has been the Shine Forever Campaign, a $500 million campaign for endowment for student's financial aid, faculty support, programs and a few facilities projects.
Humphreys said she hopes to move the campaign forward, and raise resources from individual corporations and foundations.
"President Gast has laid out the university's mission," Humphreys said. "I will garner support for the vision her academic leadership team has laid out."
Humphreys said she will return to her regular position once a new candidate is named, but is honored to temporarily serve in the position.
