The Gnosis Partners Young Professional Conference came to Lehigh Saturday to educate students about making the most of college and to provide tips for establishing themselves in the workplace.

Alta Thornton, assistant dean of multicultural affairs, helped coordinate with Gnosis Partners, R.J. Wicks and Corey Harrison, '03.

Wicks and Harrison travel throughout the Northeast talking to students about life after college.

Devin Dobson, '07, and Greg Lorjuste, '07, also spoke on the panel. Gnosis Partners uses recent graduates to present their life-after-college experiences.

Dobson encouraged students to think two years into the future. He said having a mind-set focused on the future will help students navigate through their participation in college activities.

Gnosis Partners emphasized the idea of the well-rounded student. They said a well-rounded student is more flexible and would, therefore, receive a variety of jobs even if they were not directly related to the students major.

"If they like you, they'll teach you everything you need to know about their company," Wicks said.

Gnosis Partners also discussed loving a chosen career. They said careers are not enjoyable without passion, and there is little reason to work hard at an unfulfilling job.

Adrian Bruce, '10, attended the conference and said it was helpful to him as a psychology major and business minor.

"I feel that a lot of things I learned here I can use for things other than business," Bruce said. "I can use the networking skills and apply them to anything in life."

Harrison also wanted students to remember Gnosis Partners' tag line, "Illuminate your potential," and hoped students left with more confidence about the world of work as a whole.

Thornton said Harrison and Wicks based their consulting on their experiences in the transition from college to workforce and acknowledged there were lessons they did not learn in college that affected them in the workplace.
