The volleyball team went 0-2 this past weekend, falling first to Colgate University Friday 3-1, then again to Bucknell University Saturday 3-0.
Senior middle blocker and co-captain Shannon Spafford posted a match high of 19 kills, eight digs, four blocks and hit a team best .389 during the bout against Colgate. She kept up the effort against Bucknell with 11 kills, 15 digs and a match-high of six blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Brittany Thurston added a double-double of her own with 14 kills and 14 digs.
Fellow sophomore outside hitter Mo McReynolds contributed another 16 kills against Colgate.
Head Coach Jenny Maurer said the team did its best to prepare to face the Raiders.
"Right now, Colgate is the No. 2 team in our league," Maurer said. "We watched videotapes, scouted out how they played us, how they beat us last time. We saw who their hot hitters were, where their open holes were, and we definitely tried to go after that."
The Mountain Hawks came out fiercely in the first game, topping Colgate 30-25.
The squad hit .531 as a whole, while committing only two errors.
Despite Lehigh's continued intensity, the Raiders pulled together to win the next three games 25-30, 24-30 and 21-30, respectively. The match was only the team's second home loss so far this season.
Friday night's match pushed the Raiders' record to 13-9, 8-1 in Patriot League play.
Colgate was led by junior right side Katrina Zawojski and freshman middle blocker Casey Ritt. Both had team highs of 17 kills in the game, while Zawojski also had 12 digs and Ritt had a team high four block assists
Even though the Hawks were defeated, Maurer said she was still very proud of how her well team played together.
"Overall, we were definitely pleased," Maurer said. "We really stepped it up a level. When you have parents from the other team and the referee and the coach complimenting you on what a changed team this is, it's reassurance that we were effective in so many areas."
