The College of Education's dean search committee announced Oct. 30 its selection of a search firm and the launch of its dean search Web site.

The committee chose R. William Funk & Associates to help find a new permanent dean for the college.

R. William Funk & Associates has a reputation of recruiting a diverse pool of candidates, said Anne Meltzer, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and chair of the education college dean search committee. According to the dean search Web site, the firm has recruited presidents that serve at the University of Miami, Cornell University, Syracuse University, Purdue University and the University of Delaware.

Choosing a search firm takes several steps, Meltzer said. First, the committee advertised for a search firm. Several firms submitted proposals, and the committee conducted interviews with selected firms. The committee felt R. William Funk & Associates would be the best fit for the job, Meltzer said.

"They had the experience we were looking for in regards to doing searches in the area of higher education, as well as an approach and philosophy we agreed with," Meltzer said.

R. William Funk & Associates believes in working in collaboration, Meltzer said.

The firm will help the committee identify and communicate with dean candidates. R. William Funk & Associates will be in charge of collecting applications and resumes for the position, and it will also ensure candidate anonymity.

This month, candidates will be solicited on the local, national and international levels. The search firm will have a list of candidates by December that the search committee will then narrow down.

The committee planned to create a Web site for the dean search from the beginning, Meltzer said. The Web site provides candidates with information about the position and the college itself, she said.

"They can explore in detail the college of education, the university and the surrounding community," Meltzer said.

The Web site links to pages with details on what the dean position entails, a list of attributes that the search committee is looking for, an overview of the college and the list of people serving on the search committee. It also includes information on Lehigh and Bethlehem.
