Edward Shupp, chief of Lehigh police, sent an e-mail to the campus community on Nov. 8, about a robbery of a Lehigh student.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. Nov. 7, a Lehigh student was robbed near the corner of Fourth and New streets. The student was not injured.
Members of the Lehigh University Police Department apprehended the suspect after a brief foot pursuit, and the suspect's residence was searched. Property that had been stolen from students over the past few weeks was found in the search.
Shupp said the suspect was apprehended quickly because the Bethlehem and Lehigh police departments increased patrols in the neighborhoods around campus.
The Bethlehem Police Department will continue to investigate, and the LUPD is expected to file charges for the previous crimes.
"There have been numerous crimes at both locations we have been investigating," Shupp said.
He said he could not comment on the status of the case to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Lehigh
police at 610-758-4200 or the Bethlehem police at 610-865-7187.
