The men's soccer team takes the field tomorrow against Colgate University for its last game of the season.
The Mountain Hawks, 7-7-2, look to bounce back after a 3-1 loss to Bucknell University last Friday that ended the team's hope of a spot in the Patriot League playoffs.
Senior defender and co-captain Mike Hessemer said he expects the seniors to have a big game because it's their last game. They will not go down without a fight, he said.
"We're pumped and excited to end on a high note, it's the senior's last game" Hessemer said.
Senior forward Joe Clemente said he has mixed emotions about his last game.
"I'm definitely coming to the realization that it's my last game and that's kind of saddening," Clemente said. "But we know we can go out on a win and that's big for us.
Although the seniors understand its the last time they will play for Lehigh, they are motivated for other reasons as well, senior midfielder Patrick Starsinic said.
"Being the last game is a big motivation for us seniors," Starsinic said. "But we're athletes, no matter what game it is we're always going to be looking to win it for our team."
The seniors are looking forward to the game, furthering the drive to beat Colgate.
"I feel like we could really get a win and get some momentum going into the offseason for this team," senior midfielder Bobby Quinlan said. "It's going to be real exciting and I really am looking forward to playing with people who I've been friends with for four years now."
Sophomore forward Kyle Evans, who leads the team with 11 goals this season, said the Hawks' main focus will be to shut down the Colgate offense through good defense.
"I don't think it's going to be a high scoring match because Colgate is known for their defensive prowess as well," Evans said.
Colgate's strong defense doesn't intimidate the Hawks, Hessemer said.
"They are pretty strong defensively so we need to be ready to attack in different ways," Hessemer said. "I know they have a strong goalie."
To break down Colgate's defense, the Hawks need to play aggressively, Starsinic said.
"Certainly I would hope our forwards Kyle Evans and [junior] Jimmy Taranto would get some goals," Starsinic said. "I hope Jesse Schram in the midfield has a strong showing as well."
A quick attack by the Lehigh offense could give the team an advantage in the primarily defensive battle.
"Were doing it for everyone on the team," Quinlan said. "It's going to be my last game with my friends and we're going to play for each other and for the team."
The game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
