The Mountain Hawks will travel to Newark, Del. to face the University of Delaware Blue Hens in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Lehigh is coming off an upset of the No. 23 Maryland University Terps, 1-0, this past Saturday. It was the team's first win over a top 25 team since defeating Texas A&M in 2006.
Junior pitcher Lisa Sweeney earned her fourth shutout as she struck out 12. She was also named both Patriot League player and pitcher of the week earlier in the season.
Sweeney said the team is very satisfied with its 16-2 record so far this season.
"We are pleasantly surprised at how well we came together in the first few tournaments this year," Sweeney said."The team has grown close with all of the traveling that we've done. This closeness translates to the way we play on the field."
Last season, when the Hawks faced the Blue Hens, the squad won the first game 4-3 and the teams played to a 2-2 tie in the second game.
Delaware comes into the game with a 10-6 record on the season. In two games this past weekend, the Blue Hens hit five home runs to defeat St. Francis College and Central Connecticut State University.
Lehigh's pitching personnel, which comes into the games with a 1.61 team ERA for the season, will look to cool off the Blue Hen's hot bats.
Sweeney has a 9-0 record with a 0.48 ERA on the season. Sophomore pitcher Tiffany Curtis is also performing well for the Hawks, with a 6-2 record and 1.54 ERA so far this season.
Offensively, the Hawks will look for Sweeney, junior outfielder Alisha Gonzales and senior outfielder Kate Marvel to continue contributing.
Sweeney has a .478 average on the season, and has also scored 15 runs, driven in 11 runs and hit two home runs.
Gonzales is hitting .351 on the season and has nine RBIs. She has also scored seven runs.
Marvel comes into the game with a .370 batting average, and has seven RBIs while scoring five runs.
The Blue Hens will be led on offense by junior third baseman Quinn Megargel and junior outfielder Katie DeSalvo.
Megargel leads the team with a .467 batting average, and has also scored seven runs, driven in five runs and hit one home run on the season.
DeSalvo is hitting .333 on the season with three RBIs and seven runs scored.
The Hawks will look to keep playing the way they know they are capable of as they look to capture a Patriot League title.
Wednesday's games are set to begin at 2:30 p.m. in Newark, Del.
