The new truck, a 2008 Dodge Sprinter, has a six-cylinder, ultra-low sulfur diesel engine, compared to the eight-cylinder gas engine in the previous trucks.
This is just another step Lehigh is taking toward becoming a greener campus. But, is it enough?
It has been almost two years since the environmental initiative has come to the table - and what has Lehigh accomplished? Replacing a few light bulbs with more efficient ones, buying a single more efficient mail truck, and designing a certified sustainable building?
Is this the best we can do? At the moment, yes.
There is no paid position to organize and plan for Lehigh's decisions and future plans to become environmentally friendly.
Students need to band together and support green groups in demanding a sustainability coordinator for Lehigh. Until we hire a sustainability coordinator with expertise in the field, we will continue to waste our time and.
April 22 is Earth day. Sounds like the perfect day for the administration to get behind their strategies and planning with a true commitment to the environment.
In honor of Earth day this year, be extra conscious of your actions and do what you can to make your life more environmentally friendly.
